Who Kept This Book

This codex is a work of fiction and a portfolio piece. The cases, the Inquisitor and her scribe were written for it. The world they live in belongs to Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000, and nothing here is official or endorsed.

It was designed and built by Marlow Khenth Mariquit, a web developer in Iligan City, Philippines. The brief was to make something that behaves like an object rather than a website: a book you open by breaking its seal, with glosses in the margin and black bars that lift as you earn the right to read under them.

Of the Making

Framework: Astro 7, prerendered to static HTML. Each folio is a real page with its own URL.
Transitions: Astro's ClientRouter with custom view-transition keyframes for the page turn and ink bleed.
Content: Astro content collections. Every case file is a Markdown document with a typed schema.
Motion: GSAP for the redaction wipes and the verdict stamp, loaded only when a page needs it.
3D: Three.js for the wax seal on the title page. Extruded geometry, a procedural bump map, and no model files.
Type: Grenze Gotisch, EB Garamond, IM Fell English and Special Elite, self-hosted through Fontsource.
Hosting: Cloudflare, as static assets. No server, no database, no tracking.
